What

Play Lab: Water Binds Us is a three-month intervention at The Mosaic Rooms by Chahine Fellahi.

Drawing inspiration from Mahmoud Darwish’s poetic reflection “water binds me to your name”, this project transforms one of the gallery spaces into a sensory playground for children and their accompanying grown-ups. This space extends an open invitation for the public to explore new ways to interconnect, engaging with water as a medium for play, transformation, and collective imagination.

The sensory play space for children and their accompanying grown-ups, will evolve over the period, utilising experimental methods across three public workshops for children and families. Each workshop leaves a “trace” in the Play Lab, to be explored and developed by you.

Discover projection, movement and mark-making, and make and project your own mesmerising waterscapes onto the walls at the Mosaic Rooms.

Chahine Fellahi (b. 1994) is a visual artist, filmmaker and educator based between London (UK) and Casablanca (Morocco). Working across analog and digital processes, her practice harnesses film and photography as tools to explore the materiality of images and their relationship to memory.

The images created for transparencies used in Play Lab have been created by Kaïs Aïouch, Chahine Fellahi and Jessica El Mal.

There is a soundscape in the space which has been created by Chahine Fellahi in collaboration with James Unsworth.

All materials will be provided. Suitable for age 4-11 although all are welcome. Children need to be accompanied by adults.

The name of this project was inspired by the poem ‘Who Am I, Without Exile?’ by Mahmoud Darwish.
